Collage

For my AICE Media Studies class, our teacher tasked us with taking pictures of a subject. In this task, we were supposed to utilize numerous different types of camera shots. In doing this, I had to find solutions to my own unique limitations, while generating a product that I could be proud of. The fruit of my labor is shown in the picture attached:

Once assigned this work, I had realized that the time I could spend on this project would be limited. This was due to other factors continuously building up time constraints that left me with a small window of time. Some of these factors included basic barriers, such as assignments from other classes and time that I needed to spend doing other equally important activities. Alongside this, I could not find a live subject willing to participate in my demonstration of photographic talent. Due to these factors, I had to improvise, and work with what I had lying around.

As I searched for suitable replacement for what would be the muse for my art, I had found plush dolls in my room. Once I had found a few plush toys in specific, I realized that they would be suitable for the vision I had in my mind. I took a large elephant plush, a large dinosaur plush, and a small cat plush. The reason I had chosen the cat plush alongside these jumbo dolls were for one main reason in particular; the size of the subject. When shooting these photos, I had not wanted to take a few poor shots and call it a day. I wanted a story that could be interpreted by the viewer; a story up for debate. So, I used this small cat toy to symbolize a smaller, weaker protagonist who would have to face bigger threats, such as the elephant and dinosaur.

Once I had my subjects, the rest all fell naturally. I took a few shots, scrapping the ones I felt were of poor quality. One unique take that I took with these photos was the addition of graphics in certain photos to emphasize the feelings of the characters. I would edit the photos in a digital design app, and give the characters tone indicators in photos that I felt required an extra touch. In general, I believe that my fina product was up to the standards of what I had envisioned.
