Hello, my name is Daniel Dannoui, and I am currently in 11th grade. Even though I haven't even seen half of my life yet, I can successfully say films and movies have had a pivotal part in my development. At an early age, I took on art as a personal hobby. Im still learning new tips and tricks everyday when it comes to the forms of art that I take on. A large amount of these things I learn have come from movies I enjoyed watching; mostly animated movies. One filmmaker/ animator I look up to the most is Hayao Miyazaki, the man who cofounded Studio Ghibli. Two works of his that has inspired me the most would be Howls Moving Castle and Spirited Away.



The art style, cinematography, and camera angles have taught me a lot about how perspective warps proportion, swell as how lighting can affect the mood of a piece. Every time I watch these movies, I learn something new. Even if I weren't speaking from the viewpoint of an artist, I would still be drawn to these animated movies due to knowing how much effort it takes to animate them.

One thing I hope to get out of building this portfolio is to get more comfortable with sharing my personal interests with people. In the past, I would often be quiet about anything I would be interested in due to judging myself before anyone else can. by doing this portfolio, I hope to get more comfortable with myself, and be more open to people around me.

Film Editing Techniques

For this assignment, we were tasked with creating numerous films following various editing techniques we learned in class. We had to record different shots following a prompt we envisioned. Then, we would have to sift through the shots and pick out the best ones we found. After this, wed edit them together in order to create a finished product that we could take pride in.  The first editing technique me and my partner, Adrianna, had done was the cross cutting technique. Cross cutting is normally done to show simultaneous action in different places in order to create tension in the scenes. The prompt we did followed two different characters doing the opposite of a task, with one walking peacefully in a full shot while the other is driving rapidly at eye level. This was done for a sort of comedic effect while showing the urgency in the driver. Though I am biased due to this being my most recent and challenging project, I do see this as my own magnum opus at this moment. I am extremely happy with how well this film opening turned out.
