Sound Design

 For this assignment, we were given an animated clip. This clip demonstrates a man going about his usual day to day life, with the man being characterized as a grouchy old man who does not embrace his surroundings. However, halfway through the clip, he has a change of heart after helping an old lady cross a street. The rest of the clip shows him becoming a better person; enjoying the people around him and learning to be a more light hearted individual. Throughout all of this clip, only sound effects and noises from the characters are heard. We as a group were supposed to provide music for the background of these videos, pairing it to emphasize the emotions of the clip.

I had joined a group with Sergio, Nico, and Adrianna. We decided to split the video based on different core events. The first part shows the main character being avoidant and depressive; not holding the elevator open, choosing to not help the man with the shopping cart, and ignoring the little girl with the balloon. For this section, we chose to put sad music, furthering the idea that he is disassociated from the environment around him, with it being as if he wants to help, but he can't. 

I chose all the music for the second section, with this section showing the main character having a change of heart after walking an old lady down the road. I put a more upbeat, almost surprised piece. This music slowly built up and escalated as the car kept swerving closer, raising the stakes and drawing the audience further in.

For this section was followed up with a short piece of music meant to signify the idea that the main character had won after the old lady thanked him. This implies the idea that he's been blessed with a new warmth within him.

The next section uses cheerful, happy music. This symbolizes the development of the first character, and how he now lives life by embracing the small events around him. 

The last section starts with carefree, upbeat music, showing how the main character is still in his good mood. But then it quickly cuts to sad, tense music. This pairs with the reveal of another character, similar to how the main character was in the beginning of the clip. The music slowly begins to sound more hopeful as the scene progresses, given how the main character pretends to be impaired so that the other character can help him cross the street, and change his ways.
