Film Opening Screenplay

Down below shows screenplay that I created for my film opening. In this screenplay, I outline majority, if not all of the plot of my opening. This does not include the general idea of my title cards, as I want this section to feel less scripted and planned, and more all over the place and non linear. I will further develop this section once I'm doing the base frames and sketches when animating. As for the rest, this encapsulates the direction and plot I would like to have in my film opening.

Step 7:

·      The high angle shot of The Sheriff punching The Bounty Hunter was intentionally done to make the two characters seem on the same lower field. Despite The Sheriff being of higher authority, he is just as rotten as The Bounty Hunter; this supports the narrative of there being karma for all peoples actions, even if they are given a more pristine label.

·      The eyeline match cut between The Bounty Hunter and The Blue Bandit is meant to heighten the reaction of The Bounty Hunter to The Blue Bandit. By showing us where The Bounty Hunter was looking first, it gives us a rawer reaction to The Blue Bandits character as a whole; unsettling the audience and feeding into the suspense that arises from the horror genre.

·      The extreme close up shot is meant to mask the graphic imagery of the gunshot while also showing the loss of life in The Blue Bandits eyes; generating a unique visual that raises interest in the audience and creeps them out as a whole.

Step 8:

·      The part of the film opening that works best is that it establishes first and foremost that there are no characters who have true good intentions. One of the main subjects of this film is how vested interest and selfishness can result in karmic consequences. The fact that none of these characters exhibit good intent outwardly shows why none of them get what they desire the most; they are unworthy of the Heart of the Desert. One of the hardest things to communicate through the script was the power dynamic that the character were all trying to establish, given how short the film opening has to be. One of the changes I made after reviewing the draft was to have The Blue Bandit shoot the Bounty Hunter, rather than having him strangle him to death. The reason I changed this part was because of time constraints.
